Are you being Anti-Social on Social Media

Are You Being Anti-Social on Social Media?
Many companies forget that Social Media is an interactive outlet and think that “posting an update” is enough, but by not using social media correctly they are missing many free opportunities for customer growth. Conversational social media means that you interact with your followers, answer their questions, gear your posts towards what their needs are and are a reliable source of information. Understandably, conversational social media posting is more time consuming, but it is also ten-times more effective.  Get more from your time on social media by getting conversational and making sure you aren’t making these three Anti-Social Media Mistakes.

1.   You are all me, me, me in your posts:
Every day you diligently post about your company updates. You include pictures, articles, and interesting facts, but your posts are all about you and your company and don’t speak to those who follow you.
Example Post: “MP Marketing and PR, the best small Marketing firm of all time, has a new article about How-To-Maintain your Social Media Followers”. Click below to read.
Better Post: “Want to grow your client list? The first step is maintaining your current followers. Click the link to find out how.”
2.   You talk, but don’t listen...
You’ve created a great post reaching out to your followers and they are interacting. Remember that social media is an open conversation. You started a conversation with your customers, and now you should listen to what they have to say, offering answers and information as needed. We understand you’re busy and it may be impossible to write back to every customer, but posting and walking away won’t get you anywhere. Make an effort to try a little harder. Remember keep it “Social".
3.   You disappear for weeks/months at a time
Social media should include some consistency. Whether you post every day or twice a week you should check in regularly and at the same time. People typically enjoy routine and don’t like it when their schedule is disrupted. It can cause anxiety, disappointment and loss of trust. When you disappear so do your customers. Set a time of day and a posting schedule (you can even schedule ahead now). If you don’t have anything to post, the Internet is a wealth of interesting articles and information. Find something relevant and relatable that you can share with your customers. Keep them coming back for more.
Remember, Social Media is a form of free advertising for your business. You get to talk about your company with people who are interested in your company. You have the ability to interact with a captive audience who wants to hear more about how your company can work for them, but always remember that it is a two-way conversation.
